In the Spotlight with FOR3ST HILLS

In this episode of “In the Spotlight” I have the great honor and pleasure to have a chat with FOR3ST HILLS!

Hi and thank you so much for taking the time to have a chat with me.

 

1, Who are FOR3ST HILLS?

FOR3ST HILLS is an independent rock band. We are composed of two members, Zero Surico and Jack Burton. Our frontman (Zero) does everything in our band aside from the drums; and Jack is our drummer. Zero is Transgender, Asexual & multiracial. Our drummer is Agender; and we are both religious, so we cover a lot of diversity in our band and support all communities!

 

2, The name “FOR3ST HILLS” has always intrigued me, where did it come from?

FOR3ST HILLS is a name inspired by Forest Hills, which is a town in New York City. It is where our frontman (Zero) grew up! Our band did originally go just by “Forest Hills”, but we noticed that Google searches and other search engines would primarily pull results for the town and other related places, rather than our band & music whenever “Forest Hills” was searched. For the sake of showing up more easily for those who are trying to find us, we altered the “E” in “Forest” to be a “3”, and we now go by FOR3ST HILLS (yes, spelled in all capitals). While our first two albums (Break Free and Renegade) were released under our band’s old name, all future releases will be under our current name. By the way, our music is on all platforms! Spotify, YouTube, iTunes/Apple Music, Pandora, you name it!

 

3, Music, Merch, Live Streams, what are you working on now?

All of the above, and more! We are currently recording our third album. While there is no publicly announced release date yet, we are planning to release it sometime in 2022, so be sure to lookout for an official announcement soon. We’ve also been doing livestream concerts every single month since 2020, through Patreon. They’ve been really fun, and a great way to connect with fans all around the world – regardless of where they live. We also just rolled out a bunch of new merchandise on our website, which has been great, since we try to keep things new and interesting. There are also a few side projects and huge things coming up that we have yet to reveal, but the hype is definitely there.

 

4, What is the one thing you would like to tell your Fans?

Music saved our lives, and that’s what we want to do for other people. You all make our dream possible, and while we hope we’ve supported you and let you know you’re never alone in this world, we also want to express the massive gratitude we have for all of you. Without our Rebels, none of this could be a reality. We cannot wait to see what new adventures lie ahead for the near future!

 

5, What is the one thing you would like to tell the Music Industry?

The music industry wouldn’t exist without artists, so give artists the respect they’re due! People are not machines or things to be manipulated. We are all creatives who feel emotions, have bad days, and also need to be able to survive off doing our jobs, just like anybody else! In the future, we would love to see less greediness from streaming services who pay their artists pennies on the dollar, as well as overall more credit and recognition going to the actual creators of the music & product. That’s a huge reason why our band has decided to remain independent, for the sake of maintaining our control in our identity and what kind of band we are; which is something that many artists have risked losing once they’ve signed into a deal.
