It is my incredible pleasure of introducing you to Charley Young.
She is a Great Artist and wonderful person!

1. When and how did you decide that you wanted to take your love for music into the next level?

I have always loved music. I remember listening to my Mom’s cassette tapes and Dad’s CD collection as a child. I always sang traditional songs with my paternal grandfather while he played guitar and sang. I was in a musical theater troupe for seven years and had the opportunity to perform at the White House, Austrian Embassy in D.C., Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, and more! I could go on and on! But it wasn’t until 2014 that I decided to be brave. My friend Greg Vincent who plays steel guitar on all of the band Cake’s albums did covers with me on YouTube and helped support my talent. I then started to get more and more music-oriented auditions and it seemed to be a sign for me to keep going with music. I was happy because I wanted to do it, but had been scared. I decided that you have to go for what you want in life. Funnily enough, a psychic friend of my Mom’s told me when I was 13, I wanted to be a singer and that I would do it. I had never told her about any of my desires! You have to go for what you want in life regardless of your fears or misgivings.

2. I know you have recently been in a special episode of The MusicPro Cafe celebrating Women’s History Month. How was it, and was that something you felt strongly about?

Yes, I was! Women’s history and women’s rights in general are extremely important to me. I went to the second oldest women’s college in the United States and grew up with a grandmother and mother who were and are proud feminists. I was honored to be selected to perform at MusicPro Café because they only select six artists a month, but even more so because I was selected to perform at their show that celebrated women. I’m also an ambassador of Women Who Rock, an organization out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that supports female musicians and research efforts for women’s health. In addition, I always have a full female crew on my music video sets or almost entirely female crew (one male sometimes).

3, The constellation you are playing in now, how long have you been playing together, and what are your plans for the future?

I’ve been playing with Jordan Cannata, Jared Cannata, and Kareem the Machine since the beginning of 2019. My manager at the time introduced them to me and I am so thankful that they share their talent with me. They really bring my songs to life and elevate my live shows. We are going to keep doing our live gigs together as long as they are okay putting up with me! Lol.

4, What is the one thing you would like to tell your fans?

I’d like to tell them that I make music solely for them. There is no better feeling than knowing that I have helped someone through a painful time or have helped someone feel not alone through my music. I know I’m not the only one who feels the way I do, and I want my fans to know they aren’t alone either.

5, What would you like to tell the Music Industry?

Recognize the independent musicians. Those whose music isn’t edited or customized to fit what is “cool.” The most genuine, and in my opinion, best, music is being created and released by independent musicians all over the world. Look past what is “hot” or “cool”- The cool ones are those who are true to themselves, their art, and their purpose in music – the independent musicians.

Thank you so much for being my guest in the spotlight.
